Emperor Wu of Liang asked the great master Bodhidharma:

‘What is the highest meaning of the holy truths?’

Bodhidharma said, ‘Empty, without holiness.’

The Emperor asked, ‘Who is facing me?’

Bodhidharma replied, ‘Don’t know.’
